Bihar: BJP rules out alliance with JD(U)
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday said that it would “favourably consider” any proposal from former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi for a political alliance during the upcoming state assembly elections. Senior party leader Sushil Kumar Modi said that the BJP sympathised with Manjhi over his ouster as chief minister by Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar. He also ruled out any possibility of an alliance with the JD(U) in the polls, claiming that Nitish had betrayed voters by breaking off the alliance between the two parties in 2013.

Delhi: Two cases filed against Kumar Vishwas
The Delhi Police on Saturday registered two cases against Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas based on complaints by Barkha Singh, the Chief of the Delhi Commission for Women. While the first case was registered over Vishwas retweeting allegedly inappropriate tweets about Singh, the second First Information Report was registered in connection with alleged misbehaviour by the AAP leader’s supporters during a press conference held by the DCW.

Andhra Pradesh: Over 100 dead in heat wave
Over 100 people have died because of a heat wave in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said on Saturday. Naidu said temperatures in the state were five to six degrees above normal and that they would remain at those levels over the next week. Adequate funds for water transportation to affected areas had been released, he said. He announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each for the families of the people who had died due to the heat.

Assam: 4 injured in train mishap
Four people were injured after the Alipurduar-Guwahati Sifung passenger train derailed in the Kokrajhar district of Assam on Saturday after it rammed a tree that fell on the railway tracks after it was uprooted during a storm on Friday night. A spokesperson for the North Eastern Frontier Railway said that the derailment occurred on a bridge between the Salakati and Basugaon stations at 5.15am.  The motorman and the assistant driver of the train were among the injured. State authorities have ordered an investigation into the accident.

Jammu and Kashmir:  Women urged to oppose government
Women in Jammu and Kashmir should oppose the coalition government between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the People’s Democratic Party in the state, said National Conference Party Provincial President DS Rana. Accusing the state government of attempting to weaken the social fabric of the state, Rana asked the public to “foil their sinister machinations”. His remarks came during a convention organised by senior party leader Bimla Luthra to discuss the methods for creating a larger role for women in the political sphere.
