Delhi: Opposition parties protest
As the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi asked for a feasibility report on a referendum for Delhi's statehood, the Congress and BJP referred to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plan as "dangerous and unconstitutional". Congress leader Ajay Maken claimed that the demand for statehood was anti-national while Bharatiya Janata Party leader Satish Upadhyay claimed the move was an example of Kejriwal's "anti-national and anarchist nature".

Kerala: HC orders probe into child trafficking
The Kerala High Court on Monday ordered an investigation led by the Central Bureau of Investigation into allegations of the trafficking of children from the north and north eastern states to orphanages in Kerala. The investigation was ordered after a public interest hearing. The trafficking of children from other states to Kerala orphanages came to light last year after the police caught agents who had trafficked 450 children from Bihar and Jharkhand were brought to orphanages in North Kerala.

Uttar Pradesh: BJP trying to incite riots, says SP leader
Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav said on Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party was "blowing up even small incidents" and giving them "communal colours" to "orchestrate" riots in Uttar Pradesh. Promising strict action against attempts to orchestrate riots, Yadav said the government will punish all responsible including officers.

Tamil Nadu: DMK files petition over Jaya acquittal
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Monday filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's acquittal by the Karnataka High Court in a disproportionate assets case. The petition was filed by DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan. Jayalalithaa was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in May 11 clearing her of all charges in a 19-year-old case which had contended that the Tamil Nadu chief minister and her associates possessed assets disproportionate to their incomes.

Telangana: Jana Sena leader calls for resolution
Jana Sena Party founder and actor Pawan Kalyan on Monday asked the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to resolve issues between the two of them as soon as possible. Claiming that he was concerned about the governments' responsibilities after the bifurcation of the states, Kalyan said issues such as the division of assets still needed to be managed. Kalyan also said that the Andhra Pradesh government needed to focus on the construction of a new capital, while Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao should work to instill confidence among the people of Andhra Pradesh living in his state.
