Maharashtra: Indrani plotted Sheena’s murder, claims driver
The Mumbai police found a photograph of Sheena Bora while searching the home of Shyam Manav Manohar Rai, the driver of Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, the police said on Friday. Rai gave the police a detailed version of the plot to murder Sheena Bora on April 24, 2012. The Mumbai police could now recommend that Rai be made an approver in the case before the trial court, said police officers close to the investigation. Rai was arrested by the Khar police after a tip-off from an informer that he was in possession of a 7.65 mm pistol. During his interrogation, Rai confessed to his role in the murder.

Assam: Gogoi reassures Sonia on Assam
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday told Congress president Sonia Gandhi that leader Himanta Biswa Sarma’s departure from the party will not affect the party’s prospects in the 2016 assembly elections. “I do not know the reasons as to why Himanta Biswa Sarma decided to leave the party," Gogoi told Gandhi. "There may be reasons that he is under the scanner.” During the 20-minute meeting Gogoi also apprised the Congress president of the political situation in the state and assured her that the party would formulate suitable political strategies to strengthen the organisational base and undertake programmes to foil the BJP’s game plan.

Delhi: Two more veterans on OROP fast taken to hospital
Two more ex-servicemen on fast-unto-death were hospitalised on Thursday, as the government and military veterans held another round of hectic negotiations to narrow differences over the one rank, one pension scheme. The deadlock persisted despite efforts to end the impasse ahead of the golden jubilee celebrations of the 1965 war, which start on Friday. After representatives of the veterans met Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag till late in the night, Major General Satbir Singh said they were yet to get any messages from Narendra Modi's office. "We might meet defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday," he said.

Odisha: Sonia condemns Naxal attack on BSF men
Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday condemned the Naxalite attack in Malkangiri district of Odisha in which three BSF personnel and a civilian were killed and said the guilty should be brought to book quickly. Extending her condolences to families of the dead jawans, Gandhi said that such cowardly acts of violence could not be justified. Three BSF personnel and a civilian were killed and six others injured on Wednesday when Naxalities ambushed a patrol of the paramilitary force and triggered a landmine blast in the jungles of Malkangiri district in Odisha.

Delhi: Government unveils list of 98 Smart Cities
Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar and Rae Bareli will be developed as Smart Cities according to an  Urban Development Ministry announcement on Thursday. "The prime motive is to enhance urban life, mission is very practical and realistic," Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu told. "We need the public's participation."
